CHANNEL PARAMETERS ESTIMATION: DELAY, DOA, DOD, USING SAGE ALGORITHM ON ARRAY VOLUME ANTENNA

Cube array

ABSTRACT~The purpose of this study is to investigate channel parameter estimation of delay, DOA (Direction Of Arrival), DoD (Direction of Departure) at indoor environment with SAGE (Space Alternating Generalised Expectation Maximization) Algorithm at antenna cubical array based spherical. Cube array antenna is designed by arranging  ½ λ biconical antenna 8 elements at each point of the cubes corner as a receiver and transmitter antenna. The use of spherical cubes array with three-dimensional distribution will provide wider scan (Azimuth’s angle 360° (-p, p), and elevation’s angle 180° (0, p)), so that the performance of SAGE algorithm as signals processing has high resolution in separate incidence waves will better.

The simulation results are represnted by RMS error method; estimation results for the variation of SNR values of 0 – 30 dB, the highest RMS error at 1.20 when SNR at 0 dB, then RMS Error is more accurate (00) by increasing SNR values. The estimation results of the signal number variation can estimate 25 path with a relatively small RMS error, that is <50; (4.7190 at low level SNR (15dB) and 3.38180 at high level SNR (25dB)), to estimate DOA and DoD, that is <20; (1.79680 at low level SNR (15dB) and 1.30210 at high level SNR (25dB)). When it is applied to estimate the angle difference, SAGE algorithm as a high resolution algorithm in separating two adjacent signal path can be proven to distinguish the adjacent angle 10, with the highest RMS error 0.56570 on SNR 15 dB and 0.14140 at SNR 25 dB for DOA estimation, whereas for the estimation of the DoD is 0.07070 when SNR 15dB and highly accurate (00) at SNR 25dB. Then, when it is applied as a function timing of arrival differences/delay, SAGE algorithm can accurately estimate the difference time delay between two adjacent path > 6 ns.

Geometrical Optics

Accuracy SAGE algorithm when compared between the measurement results to the validation of measurement using Geometrical Optics (GO), there are three signal paths can be estimated with good by the SAGE algorithm is path # 2, # 3, # 9 (according to Table 4.2), while path # 4 and # 5, then path # 7 and # 8 with the difference in path length < 6 ns because the field is symmetrical reflector / length was the same path be estimation error.
